Acupuncture & Dry NeedlingAcupuncture is the use to strategically placed fine needles to help restore a balance in the body's energy. Acupuncture can be used to alleviate a vast array of very common complaints. Our Acupuncturists and Physiotherapists can provide a dry needling service to augment soft tissue treatment. What Is Acupuncture? Acupuncture is a Chinese art of Medicine dating back to thousands of years in china & other parts of East Asia. Chinese Medicine states that an illness is due to an imbalance in the body’s energy. This energy is known as Qi Qi runs throughout the body by way of channels and meridians that run both superficially & deep. Acupuncture promotes the free flow of the body's Qi (energy) to bring the body into it's natural balance. What can it do for me? Acupuncture is for almost everyone. The great thing is, that you don't necessarily need to be unwell to benefit. It is effective in preventing the severity of colds and flues, muscle tension, cramping & other minor problems associated with everyday life. It can also treat specific disorders to relieve symptoms as well as help reduce recurrence. It can also be used for maintenance treatments of a long-term condition. Do the Needles Hurt? Acupuncture needles are very thin & solid not like injection needles, which are hollow. They are individually wrapped, sterilized, and for single use only, then are discarded. When using proper placement techniques, you should not feel any pain. You may feel a slight tingling or heaviness after they are inserted. This is a very common & encouraged sign. Can Children be treated with acupuncture? Yes, older children are comfortable with acupuncture however for the littler children who might be unsure, Laser Therapy is highly recommended. Laser Therapy is the use of a high frequency laser light to stimulate acupuncture points. Children respond well to both acupuncture and Laser Therapy as there energy is close to the surface and responds rapidly to treatment. How often are the treatments? The response to treatments varies from person to person. Generally for recent injuries or current conditions, the treatments are minimal with only a few needed, whereas with chronic conditions involving sever pain, or conditions that have been drawn out, there may be relief within the first few treatments, but ongoing treatment will be required for further improvement or to simply maintain a better level of comfort. There are also other methods that can be used for long term suffers such as Electropuncture. This is the use of a small electric current used in conjunction with the needle for stronger manipulation. Can it be used with modern Medicine? Yes, acupuncture does not interfere with existing drug therapy. People seeking Physiotherapy and chiropractic treatment often combine their treatments with acupuncture for greater recovery time and better mobility. Most Private health funds offer rebates on treatments depending on the level of cover you are on. |
